Emma Willis birthday party: a pinch yourself night for The Live Karaoke Band

Authored on

The Emma Willis birthday party on Saturday night gave The Live Karaoke Band one of those rare gigs that genuinely stops a band in its tracks.

The Live Karaoke Band was invited to perform at Emma Willis’s 50th birthday party in London, held at Old Sessions House in Clerkenwell, where Emma and Matt Willis celebrated with family and friends at a private party including celebrity favourites Rylan Clark, Dermot O’Leary, Tamzin Outhwaite and Tom Allen.

For the band, though, the real story was the atmosphere in the room.

Founded by Alistair Martin in 2008, The Live Karaoke Band has played some memorable gigs over the years, including Abbey Road Studios, Henley Rewind Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, and more corporate events and weddings than it could count. But this was one of those genuine “pinch yourself” nights. Being invited to play for Emma Willis’s birthday party in London is the kind of booking a band remembers for a very long time.

Emma and Matt were a brilliant couple to play for. Warm, welcoming and clearly surrounded by people who knew exactly how to throw themselves into a live karaoke party, they created the sort of room every band hopes for: full of energy, full of laughter, and full of people who were more than ready to get on stage and sing.

One of the standout things about the night was that this was not a passive audience standing at the bar. People got involved properly. The whole point of The Live Karaoke Band is to turn an event into something live, spontaneous and memorable, and that is exactly what happened here.

Tom Allen was every bit as charming in person as hoped. Dermot O’Leary was an absolute gent and completely delivered on stage, taking on Since U Been Gone and Dancing In The Dark with real commitment. Public coverage after the event also picked up on Dermot’s performance as one of the surprise highlights of the night.

Matt Willis brought huge energy to the stage with Basket Case, and it was one of those moments where the whole room seemed to lift. Later in the night, Emma and her friends brought things home in perfect style with Stop by the Spice Girls, which felt like exactly the right ending to a party like this.

And then there was the moment that probably tipped the whole thing fully into surreal territory: Rylan taking on Wannabe. That was a proper bucket-list Live Karaoke Band moment. Public reports from the evening also highlighted Rylan’s Spice Girls turn, which tells you everything you need to know about the kind of night it was.

From the band’s side, this was exactly why it does what it does. The Live Karaoke Band loves weddings, corporate events, private parties and big public shows, but the best nights always come down to the same thing: great people, a packed dance floor, and guests who are willing to grab the mic and go for it.

Emma and Matt, thank you for inviting The Live Karaoke Band. It was an absolute blast, and without question one of the most memorable shows the band has ever played.
